Prostate Cancer Screening Day held on Saturday 18th October 2025
Thank you to the 324 men who attended our 2nd free Prostate Cancer Screening day on Saturday 18th October at Warminster School. (This compares with our first PSA testing day in April 2024 which was attended by 211 men). 206 of these men (aged between 40 and 80) were attending their first PSA test. All attendees were informed of their test results within a few days; there were 39 ‘red’, 36 ‘amber’ and 249 ‘green’ results.
Thanks also to the 8 local companies / organisations who have generously sponsored this year’s prostate screening event: Warminster School, Cooper & Tanner, Airey & Guy, Homemaker, Allsop Carpets, David Wiltshire Photography, Bishopstrow Hotel & Spa, and London Hire Community Services (LHCS). Also thank you to the generous voluntary contributions on the day, which reduced the final bill paid by the Lions Club.
There was very positive feedback about the event, which Club members very much enjoyed organising. The 5 phlebotomists carrying out the simple blood tests were provided through the Graham Fulford Charitable Trust (GFCT) again.
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men, but most men with early prostate cancer do not have symptoms. It is not always life-threatening, but the earlier it is detected then the more likely it is to be cured. The PSA (prostate-specific antigen) simple blood test is the first step in the prostate cancer diagnostic pathway. It is a cheap, safe and effective way of identifying men who would benefit from further testing.
